1.  Sikh Relief Fund (1984)

This was the first project taken up by ASP members after June 84. About $15,000 was raised and sent to Amritsar for individual relief after the attack on the Harmandir Sahib.

2.  Publication of Tract (1985)

On the first anniversary of the attack ASP published a tract “India's Turning Point” that was distributed to the Sikh Community and public officials.

3.  Video of Bhagat Puran Singh

In 1990 the ASP decided that some of Bhagat Puran Singh’s work should be captured on video so that other Sikh audiences could see his service and a permanent record could be kept. This project was successfully completed and the video is available for a $10 donation. This has now become important since Bhagat Puran Singh subsequently passed away. 4.  Succeeding as a Sikh in America

ASP hosted a small one-day seminar in Washington DC in conjunction with their Annual Meeting in April 92. Successful Sikh businessmen and professionals were invited to speak to Sikh Youth and to share their experiences. It was attended by 85 participants.

5.  Support of United Sikh Association (USA)/Lohgarh

This is an organization of Sikh Youth, which was started in 1992. They are also operating a campground for Sikh children in Pennsylvania (the Lohgarh camp) where they hold camps for Sikh children and young adults. The ASP was supported on a yearly basis until 1995 with a donation. The Lohgarh youth camp is held there yearly.

6.  Support of Khalsa-Net

Since 1991, there has been a loose network of Sikhs communicating on computer networks via an electronic bulletin-board called the “Khalsa Net”. In 1994, with help from the ASP, further expansion and refinement of this network took place. A dedicated “node” for users has been established. A data-base on Sikhism is being provided for those who subscribe.. Currently this network has members from USA, Canada, UK, Norway, Singapore and several other countries.

7.  Orphans in India

Helped orphans of the disturbances in Delhi and other parts of India.

8. Guru Harkrishan Eye Hospital near Chandigarh

In 1993, Dr. Harinderjit Singh organized two eye camps: one in Nepal and the second one near Chandigarh. In 1995, with the help of ASP he has started an Eye Hospital near Sohana, Punjab on the outskirts of Chandigarh. This hospital is known as the Guru Harkrishan Saheb Eye Hospital. It sees about 300 patients daily and about 10-12 operations are performed there daily. There are 20 in-patient beds and they have 6 Ophthalmologists on staff as well as an anesthesiologist. 10.  Support of MaBoli Systems

This private venture was launched in 1991 by a young Sikh software engineer to market Punjabi language fonts for use with IBM and Macintosh computers. The ASP made a small grant and the company was successfully established. This font is now being marketed in USA, Canada, UK, Singapore & Malaysia. Other products (e.g. games for children) are being launched by the same company (Contact: Jasbir Singh -- Tel 910-643-8380)

11. Akal Academy

ASP is trying to form a link with the Akal Academy at Baru Sahib, HP, to help them with their mission of helping to educate the next generation of Sikh children. Several grants were made. Over the last several yeas several of their students studying in USA have been supported by grants and student loans.

1.  The Sikh Heritage Award

This was first started at the 1989 meeting in Chicago. The aim was to recognize a Western individual who had contributed to the welfare of the Sikh Community in North America and to project him/her in a positive light. The recipient of the award gets cash honorarium and a plaque and is requested to make a speech to the invited audience. Past recipients include Representative Dan Burton, Representative Wally Herger, Terry Dicks MP, John Spellman and Senator Jesse Helms. (Contact: Dr. JS Soin in Milwaukee 414-241-0854)

2.  Sikh Education Aid Fund

This was started in 1989 by the ASP with an initial grant of $8,000. The primary purpose of this fund is to help Sikh Students in this country by providing them with interest-free loans which will be repaid when they have graduated. Money is also raised by requesting donations from the public. To date the fund has made more than 200 grants/loans ranging from $500 to $4,000. (Contact: sef@sikhprofessionals.org )

3.  Punjab Educational Initiatives - currently 3 Projects

     Project 1:  Hole-In-Wall:  This project is about exposing kids from 5 - 12 years of age in Punjab schools (lacking basic  infrastructure) to computers. Project was initiated as a pilot project in 5 schools in Fatehgarh district with 10 industrialized versions of desktop computers and various software's in year 2007.

     Project 2: Sikh National College Qadian:  An historic Sikh institution had been neglected for decades. ASP has taken on this project starting with upgrading the computer department and providing scholarships to students. This project was initiated in year 2008.

     Project 3: Yadavindra College of Engineering at Talwandi Sabo of Punjabi University, Patiala: Punjabi University took the lead in filling the widening gulf between privileged and under-privileged students from rural areas. ASP is supporting this institution by providing a number of scholarships to the under-privileged students.
