 About SEF

This fund is one of the projects of the Association of Sikh Professionals, a tax-exempt, non-profit organization devoted to helping the Sikh Community. It began as the “Scholarship Fund” of the ASP in 1989 with the primary purpose of helping Sikh students in the United States of America. While residents of USA are the main focus, students from other countries studying in USA are also considered for assistance on an individual basis.

The Fund is administered by a four-member honorary committee appointed by-the Association. The ASP also pays all administrative expenses and supports the Fund with an annual contribution. Additional funds are raised by requesting donations from the public. All contributions to the Fund are tax-exempt since the ASP is a 501(c)(iii) entity. {Their tax no. is 36-3382751}.

The SEF makes between 15-20 awards each year depending on the resources available and the number of eligible applicants. Typically, awards have ranged from $400 to $2500 per year. While financial need is the most important criteria for eligibility, consideration is also given to academic ability and to involvement in Sikh activities. All applicants must be attending, or should have been admitted to an accredited course of study. Applicants selected for the awards are usually High School Seniors or College students. Most awards are interest-free loans. and repayment is expected after graduation. (The Fund also has some scholarships available, these do not require repayment but are only awarded in special circumstances)

Applications may only be made on the application form and should reach the SEF before the 20th of June each year. They are reviewed by the Committee of the SEF and results are announced by the 20th of August. Students will be considered for continued funding in subsequent years if they provide proof of satisfactory academic performance and keep the Fund informed of their progress and any change of address.

The Fund survives on the generosity of the Sangat—if you wish to contribute, please send your tax-exempt donation to the above address. We welcome your support in this Sewa.
